With over 15 years of experience in the music industry as a musician, audio engineer and artist manager, Darren now serves as Marcato Digital’s fearless Commander and Chief. Brian Watson, COO of Harbourside Institute of Technology, says “Darren has the ability to see the big picture while keeping track of the details; he’s a linchpin who can walk into chaos and create order – someone who can invent, connect, create, and make things happen.” In between the many hours spent facilitating the great work done here at Marcato and the local volunteer organizations he is committed to, Darren has still managed to hone some pretty incredible skills as both a gourmet chef and a winemaker.@darrengallop
An award-winning multi-instrumentalist, Morgan spent his formative years programming in the back of various tour vans while playing gigs across the globe. He finally settled down in a stationary office when he co-founded Marcato Digital with Darren. A self-taught computer programmer and graphic designer with over 10 years of professional experience, Morgan spends his days keeping the app running smoothly, and his nights playing music all over our beautiful island.@morgancurrie
Renowned as an experienced and trusted business leader across the board, we’re more than lucky to have Mr. Wilton sitting in the CRO’s seat. With a BBA from StFX and over a decade of sales, marketing, and event management experience, it’s more than obvious how Laird has become a major ingredient to the success we brew here at Marcato. Recently, Laird and his wife have welcomed a fourth child into their beautiful family, and somehow the guy still manages to keep it real by playing a little hockey on the weekends. How he does it is still a mystery to us all.@LairdWilton
Alison has been the Chief Administrative Officer of Marcato since coming on board in April 2010. Her experience in the music industry as the Manager for Company House Records was a stepping stone before joining the Marcato team. She’s our manic organizer and spends her time keeping the office together on all levels, including financial and functional. When she’s not at the office, Alison is staying active by running, doing yoga, knitting, and hangin’ out with her cats, Bernie and Simon.@agiovannetti
Dan is a lifelong Cape Breton local, apart from a brief detour to collect his Computer Science degree from Memorial University in St. John’s, Nfld. Dan joined the Marcato team during a work term in 2009 and puts his CS background to work by architecting and designing many of the new Marcato features and components, and looking for ways to best improve the experience of our users. Outside the office, Dan can usually be found caught up in a binge of board gaming with friends, or exploring the pristine Cape Breton wilderness with his trusty pooch, Charlie.
Originally from a small town outside of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Natasha grew up working for the family business where her inherited entrepreneurial spirit motivated her to attend esteemed business school, McGill University. After finishing her Bachelor of Commerce degree she retreated back to the Maritimes and landed in Sydney to be with her husband, Kyle, and dog, Ozzie. Then soon after, she joined us here at Marcato, bringing along her bilingual sales and support experience and her passion for supporting our growing client base. When Natasha isn’t taking care of our client’s needs, she’s working hard to maintain her pristine home hobby farm.@natashahillier1
By the time he graduated from UPEI with an honours degree in English, Ethan was already well on his way to establishing an array of specialized experience in start-up enterprises, both in the not-for-profit and for-profit sectors. Since then, he has been building a background in marketing and business development for the SaaS-Tech industry, and therefore felt right at home when he joined our team in mid-2013. When he’s not dreaming up a new marketing campaign or writing our Marcato blog, he’s either moonlighting at his co-founded photography studio, or spinning vintage vinyls in his living-room.@EthanFenton
An active community member, visual artist, and promoter of all things Cape Breton, Steven uses his 16 years of experience in specialized education, web/program development, design, and public interfacing to develop the knowledgebase and documentation needed to help our Marcato users do the amazing things they do in our app. First meeting the Marcato team at a community park build, Steven originally joined the team as a part-time freelancer and later as a full-fledged family member. When he’s not in the office finding solutions for our users, Steven loses himself in the wonders of our beautiful Island; administering a local hiking site, volunteering with community groups, or planning events that introduce people to Cape Breton’s natural beauty.@Inkdifferently
Kyle graduated from NSCC’s Marconi Campus in 2011 with Honours. As a native Cape Bretoner, he’s spent the past few years working for several local companies in Nova Scotia, as well as remotely for a few companies “off-island.” With a strong background in complex frameworks such as CakePHP and Ruby on Rails, Kyle was a natural fit with our Marcato development team and has quickly made himself an integral part of the day-to-day operations. When he’s not developing new Marcato features, Kyle is playing video games, pumping the freshest EDM, and watching every single movie in theatres.
Originally from Halifax, Nova Scotia, Eric moved to Cape Breton in 2009. He used this opportunity to further his education and graduated with honours from NSCC – Marconi Campus, with his diploma in Web Development. At this time he also stopped shaving his face. Eric originally specialized in small business sites with a focus on WordPress themes, but has in recent years focused heavily on complex web applications using frameworks like CakePHP, CodeIgniter, and Ruby on Rails. Since joining the Marcato team in late 2013 he can usually be heard walking down the hallway, making coffee, talking about his cats, and telling people how great of a job they are doing. His Google+ following exceeds the population of his home town for no discernible reason.@EricLortie
Mark graduated from Cape Breton University’s Bachelor of Business Administration program in 2006 and hasn’t slowed down since. With experience in support, sales, business development, co-operatives and non-profits, event coordination, and client management, Mark brings a ton of experience and perspective to the team, which enables him to do an incredible job finding the best festival management solutions for current and prospective clients. When he’s not at the office Mark can be found making the most of life on Cape Breton Island, whether it’s hiking the highlands, surfing the coastline, or volunteering to organizing ‘Lumière’, Sydney’s annual art-at-night festival.@schparrow
After graduating from Cape Breton University, Bethany moved to Calgary in 2004 where she spent the next nine years working as an IT Systems Analyst. However, in her heart, Bethany always knew that Cape Breton was her home, so in 2013 she and her family made the long trip home from West to East, and landed on the beautiful Mira River. With her past experience providing topnotch IT Support, Bethany naturally feels very comfortable providing incredible support to all the awesome people who make up the Marcato family of clientele.
